Our Commitment To The Environment
Bear Creek Bronze is a very eco-conscious company. All of our products are produced using only the finest grade of domestically engineered alloys available. Dealing only with domestic smelters and ingot producers saves a tremendous amount of fossil fuels in delivery and acquisition. Virtually all bronze, copper and brass cast products primarily come from recycled content. Few people are aware of this fact. Approximately 95% of the materials used in our alloys are of recycled content. Our suppliers recycle copper cored automotive radiators, plumbing components and machine turnings and use them as the base for the alloys they produce. They then add other proprietary elements in varying percentages to achieve the proper chemistry for specific alloys. All of the alloys we use in our products are certified for chemical composition and mechanical properties by our suppliers which adhere to strict governmental standards.
Within the production of our products our ecological commitment continues. Our molds are produced using specifically prepared sand which is also sourced domestically. We mix our sand with water and a naturally occurring binder known as bentonite clay. After the molds are produced and the castings removed, the sand is transported by vibratory conveyors, passed through a dryer and dropped into a pneumatic pressure vessel which transports the sand back to our holding tower to be used over and over again.
Our finishing processes have also made recent advances with more environmentally conscious additions. We polish and brush our products without any polishing rouges which are generally derived from animal fats and harmful chemicals which must be removed through a hot water rinse process. Once we polish or brush our products they are ready to be shipped. There are no harmful residues to rinse off. Thus we use considerably less water than companies who utilize vibratory finishers or other water based finishing processes.
Our environmental commitment doesn't stop there. Any spills we incur of molten metal is recovered and distributed back to recyclers to be re-processed into other alloys and castings.
